Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was on the panel in the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable reports, including arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to numerous summits in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
